How much does a monitor weigh?
There is no official average, but there is a useful answer — and a catch. A monitor has two weights: with its stand, and without. The one that decides whether a monitor arm can hold it is the lighter, quieter figure almost nobody looks up.

Short answer: a normal desk monitor weighs somewhere between about 7 and 20 pounds, and an ultrawide can run to nearly thirty. But that range hides the thing that actually matters, so before the numbers, the catch.
A monitor has twoweights. There is the weight with its stand attached — what it reads on a bathroom scale as it sits on your desk — and there is the weight without the stand, the bare panel. Those two numbers can differ by a third or more, and the one almost everybody quotes is the wrong one for the most common reason people look it up: putting the monitor on an arm. An arm throws the stand away and carries the panel alone, so the number it cares about is the lighter one.
So this page does two things: it gives you real weights by size, read from the manufacturers’ own spec sheets, and it keeps the two weights separate the whole way, because conflating them is the single most common mistake in the category.
There is no official average, but there is a useful answer
First, the honest bit: there is no published “average monitor weight”, and any site that gives you one to the decimal has made it up. Weight depends on the screen size, the panel technology, how substantial the stand is, and whether the figure secretly includes the box. What isreal is the range at each size, so here are named models with their manufacturers’ own published figures — the without-stand weight, because that is the one that decides an arm, alongside the boxed weight so you can see how far apart they sit.
Each line below is without stand / in the box— the first figure is what an arm carries, the second is the boxed weight:
- 24″ — Dell S2425HS:7.03 lb without stand · 15.15 lb in the box.
- 27″ — Dell S2722DC:11.9 lb without stand · 21.56 lb in the box.
- 34″ ultrawide — LG 34WN80C-B:13.9 lb (6,300 g) without stand · 26.2 lb (11,900 g) in the box.
- 49″ super-ultrawide — Dell U4924DW:26.8 lb without stand · 61.13 lb in the box.
Figures are each manufacturer’s own published specification, read 2026-07-27. Dell publishes pounds; LG publishes grams and the pound conversions in that row are ours. These are specific named models, not an average — your monitor will differ, and the point is the pattern and the labels, not the decimals.
A few things fall out of that table. A 24″ is genuinely light — seven pounds is less than a full kettle. Weight climbs with size but not evenly: the 34″ ultrawide here is barely heavier than the 27″, because a curved 34″ panel is not much more glass than a flat 27″. And then the 49″ roughly doubles again. A 32″ flat panel sits between the 27 and the 34: Dell’s 32″ U3223QE lists 22.84 lb withits stand, and — tellingly — does not surface a without-stand figure on its product page at all, which is a problem we will come back to.
The two weights, and why you are usually quoting the wrong one
Here is the gap made concrete. Dell’s 49″ U4924DW publishes all three numbers on one page:
- 26.8 lb— without the stand. The bare panel. This is what an arm holds.
- 35.9 lb— with the stand. Nine pounds of base and pillar, which the arm never sees.
- 61.13 lb— shipped. More than double the panel, and the number a careless listing is most likely to repeat.
Three numbers, one monitor, and only the first one is any use for mounting it. The stand on a big monitor is not a trivial add-on — it is a heavy slab designed to keep a wide, top-heavy panel from tipping, and on the 49″ it is nine pounds on its own. Throw it away for an arm and you have thrown away a quarter of the “weight” you might have been planning around.
Dell, to its credit, gives the useful number a precise name on some models: “weight (panel only — for VESA mount)”. That is the label to hunt for. LG calls it “weight (without stand)”. Both mean the same thing: the panel and its VESA plate, and nothing else.
Why this is the number that decides your monitor arm
A monitor arm has a weight range, not just a ceiling — a minimum as well as a maximum — and your panel’s without-stand weight has to land inside it at both ends. Go over the maximum and the arm sags and will not stay up. Go under the minimum, on a gas-spring or counterbalanced arm, and the spring wins: the arm drifts upward and floats. Neither is fixable by adjustment, and the minimum is the one nobody warns you about. We work through both ends on VESA and weight ratings.
This is exactly why the without-stand figure matters so much. Suppose you read that 49″ as “35.9 lb” (its with-stand weight) and shopped for an arm rated to 40 lb. You would have over-bought — the arm only ever needs to hold 26.8 lb — and you might have skipped a perfectly good arm that tops out at 30. Read it the other way, as the 61 lb shipping weight, and you would conclude, wrongly, that almost nothing could hold it. The right number, 26.8 lb, is the one on the spec sheet under “without stand”, and it changes the answer.
It cuts the other way too. A light panel — that 7 lb 24″ — can be undera heavier arm’s minimum. The Ergotron LX, a popular arm, is rated 7–25 lb; a 7 lb panel sits right at its floor. That is not a reason to panic, but it is a reason to read the range rather than assume any arm holds any monitor.
Where to find your monitor’s real weight — and where makers hide it
Go to the manufacturer’s spec page for your exact model and look for the line that says “weight without stand” or “panel only”. That is the number for an arm. If you only see one weight and it is large, it is probably the with-stand or the shipping figure — keep looking.
And be ready for the number to be missing, because this is the honest catch. Even a single maker is not consistent about it. Dell prints the panel-only weight plainly on its 24″ S2425HS and its 49″ U4924DW, states a “without stand” figure on the 27″ S2722DC — and then, on the 32″ U3223QE, its product page shows only the 22.84 lb with-stand weight and no panel-only figure at all. Same manufacturer, same spec-page template, and the one number you actually need is present on three models and absent on the fourth.
When the without-stand weight is genuinely not published, you have two honest options: find it in the model’s full user manual or datasheet PDF, where the physical-characteristics table usually lists it even when the shop page does not; or estimate it by subtracting a stand’s worth — roughly a fifth to a quarter of the with-stand weight on a mid-size monitor, more on a big one — and then buy an arm with headroom above that estimate. We would rather you found the real figure, but a conservative estimate beats quoting the boxed weight.
What the weight matters for besides an arm
Mounting is the main reason to look it up, but not the only one.
A desk’s stated capacity. A sit-stand desk lists a weight capacity, and while a single monitor rarely troubles it, two heavy panels plus a laptop, a dock and a lamp add up. The relevant figure there is the with-standweight if the monitor sits on the desk, or the arm-plus-panel load if it is mounted — and a clamped arm concentrates that load at the desk edge.
Wall mounting.A wall mount, like an arm, carries the bare panel and uses the same VESA pattern — so again it is the without-stand weight you check, against the mount’s rating and against what your wall can hold.
Moving and shipping.Here, and only here, the boxed weight is the one you want — the 61 lb figure that is useless for your arm is exactly right for deciding whether you can carry the thing up a flight of stairs by yourself.
The short version
A 24″ monitor is about 7–11 lb, a 27″ around 10–14, a 32″ roughly 15–20, and ultrawides run from about 14 lb at 34″ to near 27 at 49″ — those are real published figures for named models, not an invented average. But if you are looking this up to buy an arm or a wall mount, ignore all of that and find the one line that says weight without stand. That is the number the mount holds, it is meaningfully lighter than the figure you were about to use, and it has to fit between your arm’s minimum and maximum, not just under the top of it. Once it does, the arm you want is a separate and much more pleasant question.

Add a stand and you are in the 8–11 lb range depending on the model. So a 24″ is comfortably inside the range of nearly every monitor arm made — it is the sizes above this where weight starts to decide the purchase.
How much does a 27-inch monitor weigh?
Most 27″ monitors land around 10–14 lb without the stand. Dell’s 27″ S2722DC states 11.9 lb without its stand and 21.56 lb shipped. Heavier 27″ panels — 4K, high refresh, or ones with big built-in USB-C hubs and speakers — run toward the top of that band. It is still within most arms’ range, but it is the size where checking the arm’s minimum weight as well as its maximum starts to matter.
Do I use the weight with or without the stand for a monitor arm?
Without the stand.When a monitor goes on an arm, the factory stand comes off entirely — the arm bolts to the VESA holes and carries the panel alone. So the figure to check against the arm’s weight range is the one spec sheets call “weight without stand” or “panel only”, not the “with stand” number and definitely not the shipping weight. How much does an ultrawide monitor weigh?
It spans a wide range, because “ultrawide” covers everything from a 34″ curved panel to a 49″ super-ultrawide. LG’s 34″ 34WN80C-B is only 6,300 g (about 13.9 lb) without its stand— barely more than a heavy 27″. But Dell’s 49″ U4924DW is 26.8 lb without the stand and 35.9 lb with it. That top end is past the rating of many ordinary arms, which is why the heavy-panel arms are their own category.
Why does my monitor weigh less than the box said?
Because the box weight includes the stand, the cables, the foam, the manual and the carton. Dell’s 49″ U4924DW is a good example of how far apart these get: 26.8 lb as a bare panel, 35.9 lb with its stand, and 61.13 lbshipped. The shipping weight is more than double the panel weight. If a listing quotes one big number, it is almost always the boxed weight — useful for the courier, useless for your arm.
Is there an average weight for a monitor?
Not an official one, and any single figure you see quoted as “the average monitor weight” is invented — it depends on size, panel technology, the stand, and whether the number counts the box. What is real is the range by size, and that is what this page lists, using named models and the manufacturers’ own published figures rather than a computed mean we could not stand behind.
