Can you put a curved monitor on a monitor arm?

Short answer: yes, on the same two conditions as any monitor. The curve does not change how it bolts on. What it changes is the weight limit some makers publish, and how much the panel's size and reach ask of the arm.

A curved monitor looks like it should be harder to mount than a flat one. It is bigger, it is oddly shaped, and it feels like the sort of thing that needs a special arm. So the useful thing to say first is that the instinct is wrong in the way that matters and right in the way that does not.

Yes, you can put a curved monitor on a monitor arm — on exactly the same two conditions as any monitor. It needs a VESA hole pattern, and its weight has to sit inside the arm’s range. The curve does not change how the screen bolts on at all. What it does change is a little more subtle: the weight limit some makers are willing to put their name to, and how much the panel’s size and reach ask of the arm. Those are the parts worth your attention.

The curve doesn’t change the mount

This is the reassuring part, and it is grounded in the standard itself. VESA’s FDMI Overview defines its mounting parts entirely by diagonal and weight: Part D covers 12–22.9″ displays “weighing up to 14 kg (30.8 lbs.)”, Part E covers 23–30.9″ “up to 22.7 kg (50 lbs.)”, Part F runs to 90″ and “up to 113.6 kg (250 lbs.)”. Read the whole document and you will not find the word curved anywhere. Curvature is simply not a variable in the standard.

The reason is physical: the mounting interface is a flat plate on the back of the monitor, and that plate is flat whether the screen in front of it bows toward you or not. The arm bolts to the plate, not to the glass. So a curved 34″ ultrawide with a 100×100 pattern attaches to an arm exactly the way a flat 27″ with a 100×100 pattern does — same four screws, same bracket, same click into the mount. What the curve does change: the weight limit

Here is the one place the shape genuinely matters, and it is a maker-by-maker thing rather than a rule about curved monitors in general.

Some manufacturers publish a lower weight ceiling for curved panels than for flat ones. Humanscale is a clean example, because it prints both in the same table. Its M2.1 arm is rated “5 - 15.5lbs (2.3 - 7kg)” with a flat screen, but only “5 - 12.5lbs (2.3 - 5.7kg)”with a curved one — three pounds shaved off the top purely for the shape. A curved panel carries more of its mass forward of the mounting plate, which puts it on a slightly longer lever, and the maker derates to keep the spring inside its comfortable working band.

But do not turn that into a law, because it is not one. In the very same document, Humanscale’s heavier M8.1 arm lists “6 - 28lbs (2.7 - 12.7kg)” for a flat screen and “6 - 28lbs (2.7 - 12.7kg)”for a curved one — identical, no derate at all. So the honest instruction is: look for a curved figure on the arm you are actually considering. If the maker publishes one, use it. If they do not, use the flat figure and leave yourself a margin, because the physics that made Humanscale derate the M2.1 has not gone away just because a different maker chose not to print a second number.

Curved usually means big, heavy, and wide

The other thing the curve tends to bring with it has nothing to do with geometry and everything to do with the kind of monitor that is usually curved in the first place.

Curved panels are disproportionately large ultrawides — 34″, 38″, 49″ super-ultrawides — and those are among the heaviest monitors you can put on a desk. This is exactly why the weight step matters more here than it does for a run-of-the -mill flat panel. A light-duty arm that comfortably holds a 24″ can be flatly under-rated for a curved ultrawide on weight alone, before curvature even enters the conversation. Width brings a second, quieter cost. A wide panel is a long horizontal lever, so any play in the arm shows up as a bigger wobble at the ends of the screen, and the panel is more likely to foul the arm or the wall when you swing it. None of this stops the mount — it just means a curved ultrawide rewards a stiffer, better-matched arm than a small flat monitor does. Check the range, not just the maximum

The single most common mistake with a curved monitor and an arm is reading only the top of the arm’s weight rating. The number that matters is the range, and it has a floor as well as a ceiling.

Every arm in Humanscale’s table has a minimum: the M2.1 starts at 5 lb, the M8.1 at 6 lb, the M10 at 20 lb. A counterbalanced arm needs the monitor to be at least that heavy or the spring wins and the screen drifts upward on its own — the failure nobody warns you about, because everyone is watching the ceiling. With a curved ultrawide you are usually nowhere near the floor, but you can be uncomfortably close to the ceiling, especially once a maker’s curved derate is applied. So do the check both ways: is the panel heavy enough to satisfy the arm’s minimum, and light enough to stay under its curved maximum? If it clears both, the mount will hold. The verdict

A curved monitor is not a special case at the bracket — it bolts to the same VESA plate as anything else, and the standard does not even acknowledge the curve. It becomes a special case only at the weight rating, and only sometimes: check whether your arm publishes a separate curved figure and respect it if it does, because a curved panel sits on a slightly longer lever. Then treat the size for what it usually is — a heavy, wide ultrawide that wants an arm built for it rather than the lightest one that technically fits. Confirm the VESA pattern, weigh the panel without its stand, check both ends of the range, and the curve will be the least interesting thing about the install.
