So the choice is rarely about whether the machine is fast enough. It is about a set of trade-offs that pull in opposite directions: one machine folds shut and travels, the other stays bolted to the room but gives you more for your money and, quietly, a more comfortable body to sit in. Getting this right is less about specifications than about how and where you work, and about one ergonomic fact that decides more than any benchmark.
That fact is simple, and it is the thread running through this whole comparison: a laptop’s screen and keyboard are joined, and a desktop’s are separate. Ergonomics: the laptop's built-in penalty

The fix is not to abandon the laptop but to unbuild it.
