How to choose an ergonomic mouse
An ergonomic mouse is not a shape you buy on faith. It is the one that keeps your wrist straight and your grip loose for your hand — and that answer starts with how you actually hold a mouse.

“Ergonomic” is printed on almost every mouse now, and it means almost nothing on its own. A shape that saves one person’s wrist cramps the next person’s, because comfort is a matter of fit, not of a silhouette. 3. Size and weight: the details that decide all-day comfort
Within a family, size and weight are what separate comfortable from tiring. Size goes back to the fit rule from step one: the body should fill your palm so you can rest on it rather than grip it, because a mouse you have to clutch keeps your hand tense for hours. Weight is the quieter factor. A heavy mouse takes real effort to push around all day and that effort accumulates; a very light one can feel nervous under big movements. 5. Buttons and DPI: tie-breakers, not deciders
Leave these to last, because they decide comfort least. Extra buttons are useful only if you will actually map and use them; if not, they add cost and things to press by accident. DPI is sensitivity, not ergonomics — a higher DPI means the cursor travels farther for the same hand movement, which can cut how far you drag the mouse, but it says nothing about whether the mouse fits or feels good. A quiet extra worth having is an adjustable-DPI button so you can tune sensitivity to a level that lets your arm, not your wrist, do the work. Treat buttons and DPI as the deciders between two mice that already passed the fit and posture tests — never as the reason to pick a mouse that does not fit.
Set it up so the mouse can do its job
Even the right mouse fails in the wrong spot. Left hands, and the honest limits
Two things the framework cannot decide for you. If you are left-handed, watch the shape: a truly symmetrical (ambidextrous) mouse works in either hand, but many sculpted and most vertical mice are moulded for the right hand and simply do not fit the left, so filter for a left-handed or ambidextrous model before you fall for a shape. And whichever you choose, know what a mouse can and cannot do. The right mouse prevents strain and makes a neutral wrist easy to hold; it does not cure pain that is already there. If your hand or wrist already hurts, a new mouse is part of the answer, not the whole of it — change how often you move, take breaks, and see a professional for pain that persists.
Because fit is so personal, buy where you can return it. The only real test is a week of your actual work: a mouse that felt perfect in the shop can cramp your hand by Thursday, and one you were unsure of can quietly become the one you forget you are holding.
